Croatia

The best way to describe out trip to Croatia is "magical".  We loved everything about it. We started in Zurich.  After we landed we headed south to Lucerne taking a tour of a chocolate factory along the way.

 Lucerne

The next day we headed East to the area of Appenzell.
Our first stop was a little town that was having a sheep contest and the decent of the cows.

Every year they bring their cows from the summer high ground to the winter low ground.  They do this in a procession singing along the way.  They put the biggest bells on their best cows.

After we saw the cows we around the countryside going up two gondolas, watching parachuters jump off the mountain, riding a mountain slide and hiking to a restaurant/hostel built into the side of the mountain.

The next day we caught a flight to Ljubljana, Slovenia.  We walked around town for a little while before heading to the coast.

Piran, Slovenia was our first stop on the coast.

 Rovinj, Croatia

The next day we explored Istria's mountain towns.
We stopped at this church with a graveyard that looked like it had been shelled

 Groznjan was next.

 And then Motovun
Plitvice national park was the next day.

We hiked around this beautiful park all day enjoying the waterfalls.

On our way to Split we stopped at two towns.  The first was Sibenik.  This is where we heard our first, and best, Klapa Choir.

 Nest was on to Trogir.

And finally Split.  Diocletian's Palace makes up most of Old Town split.  He was a Roman emperor who made this palace as his retirement home.  Now the town has taken it over.

At night there would be live music in the main square.

The next day we took a boat to the island of Hvar.  We rented scooters and explored the island.

Before heading to Dubrovnik we walked around the markets of Split and went into a tiny church built in the wall of the palace.

 Dubrovnik

We went to a gypsy jazz concert with the Dubrovnik Symphony in the rector's palace.

 Our traditional segway tour

You can walk around the whole city of Dubrovnik on the old walls. Most of the roofs had been shelled in the war and you could see the difference between the old brown roofs and the new red ones.

We had ALOT of gelato on this trip.
The next day we went into Bosnia
There were building where you could still see damage from the war.
Mostar felt like Istanbul.  There were many mosques and the markets felt exactly the same.

Mostar is famous for this bridge where jumpers collect money to jump off.
